 Charles Wilson

1. History:

Wilsons Sign Solutions started out in 1921 as ‘ Wilsons Engraving Works’. It was founded by Charles Wilson who operated one of the first ‘ motorised ’ engraving machines to be used in Perth. In 1938 Charles became ill and subsequently passed away, leaving his son Clarrie to carry on the business. In 1985 Charles ’ grandson Clayton joined Clarrie to become the third generation of Wilson’s to run the company.

In January 1995, Clarrie passed away and today Clayton is the Managing Director and his brother in law Tim Reardon is a Director with shares in the business.
In June 1999 Wilsons Engraving Works was renamed Wilsons Sign Solutions to reflect more accurately the fact that we have become one of Perth’s leading sign manufacturers.

2. On Site Service:

We have experienced Sales Consultants available to meet with you at your office or on site. We are happy to quote from drawings and specifications, or if you require recommendations, we will measure up and prepare drawings, samples and quotes as required. You will benefit from our many years of experience when considering the best materials and manufacturing processes to achieve the results you desire. We also offer our services to develop Sign Schedules and Specifications as required by many Architects on larger projects.

3. Design:

To ensure you get what you want we prepare layouts prior to manufacture. We offer this service as part of every job we do. This is an important step in the overall procedure and again you will find our Sales Consultants and Designers a pleasure to work with. Our aim is to make sure you are happy with the finished product and it is extremely helpful to see it on paper prior to manufacture.

4. Manufacture:

Signs are in many ways a ‘ work of art ’. There are many pitfalls for the inexperienced and the choice of materials and manufacturing processes can make an enormous difference to the end product. It is here that we have a wealth of experience to ensure we produce high quality, long lasting signs.

We make sure we have the best machinery and software to complete the work and we continue to keep an eye out for new developments in the sign industry. We have a highly skilled production team and we pride ourselves on making the work environment at Wilsons Sign Solutions a happy and productive one.
 Installation

5. Installation:

Installation is as important as any other step when it comes to providing a sign. Letter spacing, sign alignment and simply liaising with our clients to ensure we arrive on site at the agreed time is all an essential part of the service we provide. You can’t buy experience and we have an abundance of that. It would be impossible for us to determine how many signs we have installed throughout Western Australia in over eighty years but you can be certain that we have ‘ know how ’ when it comes to installing signs.

6. Job Retrieval:

Job recording and retrieval is an area we have spent many hours developing. So much so that we have a 50% share in the software product called ‘ JobTracker ’ (see www.chamsoft.com.au or click on 'JobTracker' below for more information). We have been using this database system since February 1994 and we have over 26,000 jobs in the database. We can search using any one of eighteen fields (eg Customer Name, Company Name, Order Number etc) and find the job we are interested in within seconds and view the associated drawings.

I’m sure you will have seen examples of building signs and directories that are not well maintained. The signs may have looked attractive when they were first installed but if the updates and additions do not match the original specifications they quickly become an eyesore rather than a feature of the building. It sounds a simple concept but we are continually amazed at how many examples we see of poorly maintained building signs. We like to take the onus away from our customers and make it as simple as possible to re-order from us and JobTracker has given us the means to ensure consistent updates.
